Kevin Durant’s game-high 45 points could not prevent the Golden State Warriors from falling to a 129-121 Game 5 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Wednesday night’s playoff scores

  • Utah Jazz 93-100 Houston Rockets – Rockets win series 4-1
  • Los Angeles Clippers 129-121 Golden State Warriors – Warriors lead 3-2

The Warriors wasted their opportunity to close out the first-round playoff series despite Durant’s career-high-playoff points haul as Lou Williams came off the bench to score 33 points to send the series to a sixth game.

Building on his dominant scoring displays in Games 3 and 4, Durant connected on 14 of his 26 field goals, including 5-of-12 from three-point range, and hit all 12 of his free throws. He also contributed six rebounds, six assists, a pair of steals and a block.

Durant’s highlight play of the came late in the fourth quarter. With 2:47 remaining, he received a slightly wayward pass from team-mate Andre Iguodala at the three-point line, stretched to control possession and then blew by Clippers defender Montrezl Harrell before charging to the rim to hammer home a thunderous dunk that gave the Warriors a 118-117 lead.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Clippers answered with clutch baskets from Williams and Gallinari to stave off elimination and send the series back to Los Angeles for Game 6.
