Players and staff at Macclesfield have not received their salaries for April – the third successive month there has been a delay.

This is the fourth time this season that wages have not been paid on time at the relegation-threatened League Two club.

Macclesfield confirmed the delay when contacted by Sky Sports News.

The Silkmen, managed by Sol Campbell, are two points clear of Notts County ahead of their final day of the season and will ensure they retain their Football League status with a victory against Cambridge on Saturday.

Wage payments for February and March were made later than scheduled.

Bolton players went on strike last week over unpaid wages, with last weekend’s Championship home fixture against Brentford postponed and remains unscheduled.
