Hearn: “I would have liked to see him at 100 per cent but the fact is, a record is a record and he lost the fight. He’s got to rebuild and we’ll see what he’s made of.”

Jordan Gill suffered a “huge blow” after losing his unbeaten record to Enrique Tinoco but promoter Eddie Hearn believes the 24-year-old will bounce back from defeat.
Gill lost his WBA international featherweight title after he was dropped three times by Mexican challenger Tinoco and pulled out by trainer Dave Coldwell after eight rounds at the Nottingham Arena on Friday night.
The Cambridgeshire boxer, who was tipped as a future world title challenger, revealed after the defeat that he had gone ahead with the fight despite being ill with suspected food poisoning.
“We would have liked to see Jordan at 100 per-cent but everything is what matters on the night,” Hearn said on Sky Sports.
“If he gets in the ring and can’t win a fight, he doesn’t win a fight and that’s what goes down on the record.
“Once you decide to take the fight, that’s it, it’s over. He wasn’t himself tonight but he paid the price. It’s boxing and you’ve got to get in there and fight and if he’s not up to it physically, he’s going to lose and it’s a big loss on his career.
“Everybody was talking about the future, European titles and world championships, Peterborough and tonight it came crumbling down, so know we’ll see what he’s made of.
“He got unlucky today and I would have liked to see him at 100 per-cent but the fact is, a record is a record and he lost the fight. He’s got to rebuild and we’ll see what he’s made of.
“A lot of fighters have had disruptions in their career but have come back from a lot more. He’s a quality fighter who works very, very hard.
“He has a great work ethic and I believe he will be back but for now it’s a huge blow for Jordan Gill.”
