Aaron Lennon, Phil Bardsley and Steven Defour have had options on their existing contracts activated to keep them at Burnley next season.

However, defender Stephen Ward and goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard have not had their contracts renewed while Jon Walters is retiring from football due to injury.

Left-back Ward ends a successful five-year stay with the Clarets while former Republic of Ireland team-mate Walters and Denmark international Lindegaard leave after two seasons with Burnley.

Talks between Peter Crouch and the club remain ongoing with the former England international also out of contract this summer.

The 38-year-old former England striker joined the Clarets on a short-term deal from Stoke in January but did not start a game or score a goal – and missed nearly two months following appendix surgery in March.

Crouch has even admitted he is considering retiring after his substitute appearance in Burnley’s final game of the season against Arsenal.

He said: “Everyone I’ve spoken to who’s fit and retired has regretted it, and everyone who has retired has told me to play on as long as I can.
