Brooks Koepka’s approach to the second seemed to confuse the shot tracer technology which followed the divot instead of the ball!

To television viewers, the technological gift that is Top Tracer indicated Brooks Koepka was heading for a heap of trouble early in his third round of the PGA Championship.

The record-breaking overnight leader missed a great chance to birdie the first from six feet and, after splitting the fairway at the second, his approach appeared to be heading way right of the green and into the unknown.

The tell-tale red line following the ball flight arced to the right and kept going, only for the camera angle to switch to the green and follow Koepka’s ball pitching in line with the flag and pulling up just five feet from the target.

And a quick rewind revealed the reason for the errant Top Tracer line; Koepka’s huge divot caught a gust of wind and veered towards the right, and the Top Tracer actually followed the flight path of the divot instead of the ball!

Third round as it happened

So, just when we thought Koepka’s seven-shot lead might be trimmed, he popped in the putt to extend his advantage to eight and continue his relentless march to a fourth major victory in less than two years.
