Forward/center Larry Nance Jr and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed on a four-year contract extension, according to multiple media outlets in a deal reportedly worth $44.8m.

A native of Akron, Ohio, south of Cleveland, Nance, 25, joined the Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Lakers in a February 2018 trade.

He averaged 8.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.8 blocked shots in 24 games with his new club, usually filling a reserve role as the Cavaliers advanced to the NBA Finals.

Nance is expected to platoon with Tristan Thompson at starting center as he enters his fourth professional season. In 192 career NBA games, including 55 starts, Nance is averaging 7.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Nance’s father played for the Cavaliers for seven of his 14 NBA seasons, fuelling the son’s excitement about the extension.

“I haven’t come up with the word for it yet,” Nance told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Surreal doesn’t even cut it. I grew up here. I grew up in this building watching my dad play.

“To re-up here for four more years and wear the (number) 22 in the city of Cleveland, I can’t put it into words. I’m one of you guys. I’m a Cleveland guy at heart. There’s no place I would rather be.”
